McNerney meeting with Johnson

Congressman Jerry McNerney will visit Lodi Thursday to get to know the city's elected leaders and key issues.

McNerney will meet with Mayor Bob Johnson and Vice Mayor JoAnne Mounce in what both sides described as an informal, "meet and greet" session.

This is McNerney's first meeting with city officials since his November election victory over incumbent Richard Pombo.

"There are several federally related issues we will be faced with," Johnson said. "We are concerned about waste water requirements, electric utility associated costs and transportation issues."

He said the private meeting is a good chance to get to know McNerney.

"This is our first association with him so we don't want all the bells and whistles going off," he said. "We are trying to get to know him."

Andy Stone, communications director for McNerney's office, said the congressman is looking forward to a good working relationship with Lodi officials.

"This introductory meeting is so the congressman can hear about what's important to the folks in Lodi," Stone said.

Also meeting with McNerney are City Manager Blair King and other senior city staff.

King said the meeting "does not have a heavy agenda."

"The purpose of the meeting is to open up lines of communication," King said. "It will be a brief overview of Lodi issues. We will let him know we are open and willing to help him with the formulation of policy."

McNerney, a Democrat from Pleasanton, defeated Pombo with 53 percent of the vote in the race for 11th congressional district. A wind energy specialist, he serves on the Science and Technology Committee, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Veterans Affairs Committee.

" I have heard that PGE does not like messing with the windmills. That is why so many are not running. Solar power is better. Hey Lodi, seriously, want to put some solar panels in my vineyards? I am thinking of replacing more vines with alpacas anyway. (They would love the shade from the panels.) "

Daniel wrote on Jan 31, 2007 4:59 PM:

" R.G. Goldstein: Yeah! You got the windmills right. McNerney wants windmills. They might really be a part of his public campaign speech. McNerney criticized Pombo for drilling for domestic oil, saying replace it with windmills. This is about the only item I supported Pombo for. I thought it would not be important to have domestic oil if there is a North American Union with an amero currency, and a common North American law. I don't think McNerney even knows about this. "

" Lets see.... I read the print edition of LNS and Jerry McNebbish comes to town and tells us we need another empty passenger commuter train subsidized by the government and some windmills in an area with little or no wind. Where is Pombo when you need someone with juevos. what a simpleton. Johnson, take him to a coffe klatch ! What a drooler. "

" You have to understand that T&C is a "school yard bully". He has gained some self-importance on these blogs and is encouraged by two or three others on this site. He is a "closet" coward and will never step from behind the protection of his blogging. Like with a bully, all you have to do is stand up to him once and he will run with his tail between his legs spewing his conspiracy theories. Glad to help out on this subject. "

" T&C, you mean a public meeting like McNerney and Mounce and Johnson aren't having? Interesting you haven't got a beef with that- especially since I understand that McNerney has been spotted sipping wine... "

Daniel wrote on Jan 25, 2007 8:26 PM:

" Mr. Johnson: Anyway, my topic of interest is national, not local, and I would be asking for the city to express it's opinion through connections that it has with Mr. McNerney. My topic affects everybody. I have spoken to McNerney, but I'm not sure that he heard me well enough. "

" Mr. Johnson: Ok. This is a forum that is open to the general public, for people to meet and discuss what's on their mind; so, I think it is indeed appropriate to say anything about our govt here, so long as it is not profane, slandering or threatening. Good luck with the bloggers. "

" I think the whole City should meet you for coffee. How about setting up a date at the library early Feb, we can have an open informal gathering for all concerns to be brought up for discussion. Lets talk about fixing up the library while we are at it. "

" Mr Jhonson I am glad for the citizens of Lodi and myself that you take the time to answer the comments on this Blog. It makes me feel there is a chance that our local Government is listening. Now What about the water?? How are we going to Fix the county Wide Problem without raising more Fees. "

" Mr. Mayor, why do you humor T&C. It would be a complete waste of time. And by the way T&C, I'd be happy to prove you wrong if you would ever provide fact to support your claims. How can I disprove something if you've not given me anything to dispute. Tell me about the audit. What's the issue? Be specific. You can't. You just spew the same old lines. Get a life! "

T&C wrote on Jan 25, 2007 5:07 PM:

" If you and your council and management team are sincere, I'm sure that"katz's" printing company could take care of printing the notices and letters for all the business you have steered to him all these years, you could also use Hutchins square to create enough room for good turnout. You do this for other groups so show your serious and bring this issue up at Wednesday's council meeting. I'll be watching. "

T&C wrote on Jan 25, 2007 5:03 PM:

" Mr. Johnson, when you and I meet, it should be in a public forum in the evening or on a weekend with posted notices and letters to all voters in the city of Lodi with the time and place plainly noted. There are many questions I want to ask you in front of the public and not in some private back corner coffee shop. You can even bring the good old boys with you. I have other interested parties that also have some questions that you need to answer for us Lodians. Got the courage? "

" T&C, I`d like to see you lay out a specific 10 point plan to fix whatever you believe to be wrong with the city. Blaming the Good `Ol Boy network for everything doesn`t score you many points with the average citizen. It`s just not as simple as you imply. "

" Will I be meeting Bob Johnson or Patton? I don't trust anyone with two names and personalities. And to "love it", you're the one who's got the guilty conscience and gets excited. Show me I'm wrong. Start with the 2005 audit that is going to take up to a year to "fix" so it's presentable. If you review a few of the past CC meetings, you can maybe pick me out from the archives of one of them. It's not important who I am, but who I know. "

bob johnson wrote on Jan 25, 2007 9:23 AM:

" T&C why don't you and I meet for coffee one morning? I'll buy. Perhaps a face to face meeting can convince you that all is not as bleak as you claim. I can be reached thru the city clerks office. "

black and white wrote on Jan 25, 2007 8:52 AM:

Love It wrote on Jan 25, 2007 7:38 AM:

" Just check the financial records of the city of Lodi, and then go to the electric utility districts web site and find the Finch report and see how much money the district owes the NCPA. You certainly are very naive. are you one of the city staff trying to find that missing money from the 2005 audit? Why was an outside company hired to "fix" that audit, and they said it would take probably a year? "

T&C wrote on Jan 25, 2007 6:58 AM:

" I hope that the visit with Congressman McNerney is positive and that he can see where the real problems are in Lodi and get us headed in the right direction. Our council doesn't listen to their citizens. He needs to assure us that our city council and management team have more public forums, at times when people are available to attend, so there can be more public input, rather than them saying that's what we want. Mayor, explained to him why we are bankrupt and have the highest electric rates in the U.S. "

" There are others working to rid Lodi of the corruption and pandering. If it weren't for Ms. Mounce keeping a bit of a check and balance and speaking up against those who bully, this city would be more pathetic than it is. Let's talk about the water meter money that's needed to start the installation of meters on ALL homes. Mandates are coming soon and all you worry about is keeping the developers and non-profits happy. "

He seems to have such insight on the pulse of the city of Lodi and there is nothing I'd rather see then T & C represent us. Yeah, that or I'd rather put a gun to my head. Leave your moronic rants on this sight T & C, because we all know you're way out of your league sending e-mails to Senators. "

Remember, it's your duty. You can always turn your head, like the naive Lodians do. "

I hope others concerned will do the same tonight before his visit with the Mayor. He should have Ms. Hitchcock involved, as well as Hansen, who've led the charge to corruption and bankrupting Lodi and also the electric utility district. "
