African representatives will be in Galt to speak at joint church service
News-Sentinel Staff Writer
At least six Galt churches will conduct a joint service on Sunday to increase support for the poverty stricken African nation of Lesotho.
The churches have canceled their regular Sunday services to meet jointly at 10 a.m. in the Galt High School gym, 145 N. Lincoln Way.
The Lesotho project began last year, when seven pastors, including four senior pastors from Galt, traveled to the small country, surrounded by South Africa. More than 400 children, many of them stricken with AIDS, have been sponsored by members of Galt churches and from the community at large.
The city of Galt is working to establish a sister city relationship with Malumeng, a town in Lesotho.
Two guest speakers, Agatha Molise and Mamohau Mokoena from Malumeng, Lesotho, will give their perspective on the work being done in their area. Also scheduled are a children's choir and a video of Galt's involvement in Lesotho.
A free will offering will be taken, and sponsorships of Lesotho children will be taken for about $30 per month.
Participating churches will include St. Luke's Episcopal, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran, Horizon Community, River of Life, Galt United Methodist and First Baptist churches.
The community is invited, and child care is available for children under 5.
