A Spare the Air Day is scheduled for today in San Joaquin County. To help reduce air pollution, avoid driving as much as you can, suggests the San Joaquin Air Pollution Control District. Joe Guzzardi wins baking awards at fair
News-Sentinel columnist Joe Guzzardi received five first-place blue ribbons in three different baking categories at this year's San Joaquin Fair.
His Chocolate Frosted Triple Chocolate Brownies with Dried Cherries won first place in the brownies category. His recipes for Vermont Apple Bread, Decadent Double Chocolate Banana Bread and Old-Fashioned Scottish Orange Current Scones took first place in the quick breads category. His California Fruit Cake took first place in the cakes, non-layer category.
Art show to be held Sunday
An art show will be held at Scooter's restaurant on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m., with photographer AliseMari's work being showcased. Appetizers and refreshments will be available.
Germans from Russia group meets Sunday
The Lodi chapter of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia will meet on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 267 N. Mills Ave., Lodi.
Anyone with a German-Russian background is invited to share family histories, ancestry in Russia, immigration to the U.S. and coming to Lodi. An ice cream social will follow.
