Theft suspect allegedly gave wedding presents away to family, girlfriend
A 19-year-old Galt man arrested this week on suspicion of stealing a Jeep full of wedding presents had given several of the stolen items as gifts to his mother, grandmother and girlfriend, still in wedding-gift bags, according to Galt police.
Some of the gifts were also exchanged for a gift card at the Wal-Mart store in Lodi, said police Lt. Ken Erickson.
Charles Randolph Aldridge Jr., was arrested Monday night on suspicion of vehicle theft, grand theft and possession of stolen property, and they're looking for a second suspect, Erickson said.
Meanwhile, most of the estimated $2,500 worth of wedding presents stolen from Jodi Norton Ronalds and her husband, Adam Ronalds, in the early morning hours of Nov. 18, have been recovered, Erickson said.
Police are looking for another suspect after searching his residence in the 100 block of Franston Street, near Crystal Way and Boessow Road.
The newlyweds, who got married Nov. 13, had their Jeep packed at the home of Jodi Ronalds' parents and grandparents on Ayers Lane five days later when it was stolen. The Jeep was found a few hours later on Boessow Road, police said.
Several valuable items were found in Aldridge's residence, while a large pile of items that belonged to the newlyweds were found at the Franston Street residence on Wednesday night, Erickson said. Officers found the items after obtaining a search warrant on the Franston Street home. The suspect they were seeking wasn't home at the time.
Officers got a break in the investigation about 10 days ago, when Aldridge phoned his mother and asked her to pick him up at the Franston Street address and transport home what turned out to be several of the stolen wedding presents, Erickson said. The mother refused to transport the items in her vehicle because she suspected they were stolen, police said.
Aldridge told police that he bought the wedding presents from a man who had just gotten married and didn't want the gifts, Erickson said.
