Safety, pollution of Lodi Lake a concern

I am concerned about the safety and pollution of Lodi Lake.

If the farmers can regulate water to irrigate, we should be able to regulate to have more fresh water forced into the lake.

An easy solution would be when the water goes under the small bridge to the lagoon, put two or three large pipes under the road to the lake.

A pump could be added to force the water into the lake. It shouldn’t be too costly and with the revenue we could get off the participants would pay for it. Think about it.

On the safety items: On father’s Day, I rented three kayaks, one canoe and three paddleboats. All were fitted with life-jackets.

James Verner talked to each participant about safety, to stay on the lake, on a specific side of the logs because speed boats and personal watercraft were dangerous on the river.

I always thought no speedboats were allowed on the lake except to drop them in the water. Lake Tahoe has banned all personal watercraft on the lake because they give off too much pollution. Maybe this should be considered on the river.

The river winds, has too many logs, snags and sandbars to be used for water skiing. As a docent, I have seen many personal watercraft and motorboat drivers not using good judgment.

Please consider these suggestions.

I have been a nature docent since we started Friends of the Lake. I had a major in recreation and physical education in college and have served on many committees in cities where I have lived.

These two problems — pollution and safety — need to be addressed by the City Council, Parks and Recreation Department and the citizens of Lodi.
