I am a Lodi High School student. In the July 18 News-Sentinel, somebody by the name of R.E. Thull described someone he knew.

This person didn't work hard, was accustomed to a lavish lifestyle, and was a leech on society. Mr. Thull concluded his letter by declaring that the man he was referring to was a Democrat.

It infuriates me to have someone equate a luxurious lifestyle and not valuing hard work with being a Democrat. The only reason Mr. Thull added the last part of his letter would be to insinuate that all Democrats are elitist snobs taking the hard-earned money made by the Republican working man.

I would just like to point out that welfare provided by the government today is barely enough to purchase the basic necessities of life for the people who need it, let alone maintain a lavish lifestyle.

Not one state, including California, pays enough in welfare and food stamps to keep a family out of poverty.

In conclusion, I, in turn, would like to generalize all Republicans by using one person as an example in the same childish and indignant way Mr. Thull has.

There's this person I know. He has lived high on the hog for a long time. One day he publicly revealed the identity of a CIA agent. In other countries, he would be fired and put on trial for treason.

However, since our president has grown accustomed to this person's status as a friend and high official in the White House, nothing is going to happen to him. After all, it's his right to reveal the identity of people trying to protect this country from evil, right?

P.S. There is no question this person is a Republican. His name is Karl Rove. And I have the insight and knowledge to know that Karl Rove is not a representative of all Republicans.

Maybe Mr. Thull should focus on people we know instead of an anonymous person he could have made up.
