What is sense of a skatepark if it isn't used?

This letter is in response to "Kids should be allowed to use the skate park." I have to agree that the park should be reopened and skaters must skate at their own risk.

What is the sense of building a park for such purposes as skate boarding and then closing it down?

Kids get into trouble for skating everywhere else, and yet they really have no place to skate. The upkeep of the park should be left to the kids who use it.

I don't have a solution for the "bad kids" who would choose to go there and "tag" the place or to even cause trouble, or even gang members who would choose to go there, but for the kids who are not into trouble and not trouble makers, I see no reason not to re-open the park. Maybe the police department could do random drive-bys to make sure there is no trouble.

Some sort of solution should be considered, a thought could be, why not have a meeting announced so that the children who want to use it can come in and give their thoughts and ideas, etc? Get their input on what is going on with them, and what they would want to do.
