Lodi wrestlers win titles

Both Lodi High’s varsity and junior varsity squads won titles at the two-day Lodi High tournament.

The Flames varsity team finished first in Division II with an overall record of 6-1.

Amador High was second with a 3-2 mark in the division.

The tourney pitted 18 teams against one another, resulting in seven dual matches. It also featured a two-round “Shootout” matching the four best wrestlers in each weight class against each other in an Ironman competition.

The Lodi junior varsity team placed first in Division III after being called into competition at the last moment to replace a team that dropped out. The Flame jayvees went 4-3 overall, including 4-1 in Division III.

Tracy High was second with a 3-2 mark in the division.

Los Banos High won Division I with a 7-0 mark. Foothill High of Sacramento placed second.

Lodi’s varsity squad defeated Patterson High 64-15, lost to Rio Linda High 40-31, bested Sierra High 47-24, upended Amador High 45-27, battered Edison High 55-19, knocked off East Union High 51-25, and thumped Bret Harte High 47-30.

The Flame jayvees fell to Foothill 43-33, lost to Sierra High 49-25, toppled Tracy 43-27, fell to Valley High 46-32, throttled St. Mary’s High 56-21, defeated Patterson High 45-36, and edged Lincoln High of Sacramento 43-37.

Eight Flames competed in the Ironman. Leading the way was Hugo Sanchez, who took first place at 215 pounds. He went 7-2 for the tourney.

Finishing second in the Ironman were Dan Snyder (140 pounds) and Kevin Culbertson (171). Josh Silva (112) and Troy Jarrett both finished third. Felipe Bramasco (103), Sergio Sixto (112) and Matt Halecky (119) each placed fourth.
