I woke up this morning and was pleased with the headline, “Lodi school bond passes.”

Upon reading further, I found that those against Measure K felt they had to vote in my name — “senior citizen” — and protect me from myself.

Please don’t hide behind the senior citizens. I am perfectly capable of making rational and thoughtful decisions.

I sincerely hope they spend money on a swimming pool and adequate sports facilities.

Where else are the kids going to learn, patience, sportsmanship and teamwork? Everyday, you read about overweight teens. Give them a chance to experience a sport they can take into adulthood. Give them a chance to develop friendships within the school and with competing schools.

I sincerely hope they spend money on auditoriums, art labs and music rooms.

Where else do people learn to appreciate beauty?

Don’t tell me the parents. When was the last time the majority of the parents took their teen to the theater, a music concert, or an art show? Take them kicking and screaming, but take them.

Most people can afford $60 per $100,000. Give up a few six packs of soda, a few trips to the local liquor store, or the fast-food establishments.

If you’re worried about senior citizens, take one to lunch so he or she can participate in the education of our youth. I would rather pay the money than be mugged by a dropout who was lost in the shuffle of Concept 6, limited facilities, too few days and parents hiding behind past differences of opinions.

Everyone thinks the district has made mistakes. The district is a group of people working for the children of this community.

They are not perfect, you are not perfect and I am not perfect. North Stockton is ours and the district office is built. Bury the dead horse and start with tomorrow and let’s work for the children of today and tomorrow.

For those of you who voted “Yes” — thank you! At least you know where the future of our country lies.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
