Lodi, Tokay well represented at swimming finals

The heats are set. The swimmers are seeded. All that remains is the competition.

Tokay High School hosts the San Joaquin Athletic Association swimming finals at 9 a.m. today.

Lodi's varsity boys and girls teams finished the regular season with perfect 7-0 marks, while Tokay's boys finished 6-1 and the girls recorded a 5-2 mark.

In boys action, Lodi sends three No. 1 seeds to the finals while Tokay places one.

In the 200-meter freestyle, Shane Mahoney and Mike Heberle will compete in the final for Tokay.

David Law, Kyle Jorgensen, Darrel Schulz and No. 1 Scott Lauchland represent Lodi.

The Tigers' Nick Ishii and Mike Kemether join the Flames' Blake Thomas and Ryan Hust in the 200 medley final.

In the 50 freestyle, Lodi sends Andre Alegre and Jen Young, while David Seed will swim for Tokay. The Tigers' Sean Dryden and the Flames' Kyle Hensel and Schulz will compete in the 100 butterfly.

In the 100 freestyle, Taylor Broughton represents Tokay, and Andre Alegre, Young and the No. 1, Werner, swim for Lodi. The Tigers' Mike Heberle, Mahoney and Dryden join the Flames' Hensel and No. 1 seed Jorgensen in the 500 freestyle.

In the 100 backstroke, Lodi sends Lauchland, and in the 100 breast Tokay sends Broughton, who joins the Flames' Werner and Thomas.

In the girls competition, Tokay's Emily Woo and Lodi's Cheryl Bingaman come in as No. 1 seeds, with Bingaman coming in as the favorite in two events.

In the 200 free, Tokay sends Kara Cockerill, Morgan Diehl and Aaron Crivelli, and Woo is the favorite in the 200 medley with Lodi's Staci Werner joining in the heat.

Bingaman is the No. 1 in the 50 freestyle.

In the 100 fly, Lodi sends Monica Schu and in the 100 freestyle Tokay's Megan Delis joins the Flames' Diehl and No. 1 Bingaman.

In the 500 freestyle, Lodi's Schu joins Tokay's Woo and Katrina Cockerill. In the 100 backstroke Werner represents Lodi and in the 100 breaststroke Kara Cockerill represents Tokay.

Tokay and Lodi will compete in the relay events in the boys and girls divisions.
