Flying with Bush

For the past several months, I have observed the liberal media's attempt to depict George W. Bush as some sort of likable dummy - a nice guy, but not bright enough to be president.

I don't know how smart one has to be to run a big league ball club, or to be governor of Texas. I do know a little bit about how the Air Force and Navy selects applicants for pilot training.

To make a long story short, they both choose the cream of the crop among college graduates, and half of that elite group washes out. Bush made it all the way through Air Force flight training and ended up flying a Mach One fighter.

He served in the Texas National Guard, but that has nothing to do with the selection and training process. The National Guard was not a way to avoid service in Vietnam. Many National Guard Units ended up there.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
