I have not followed the city's redevelopment agency issue too closely, but these are my thoughts.

What's happening to our Eastside? Nothing, except one new little market is doing more than its part.

Where do we start? There have been committees after committees for the Eastside that have accomplished some good, but not what really needs to be done.

Are we going to let the Eastside infrastructure keep crumbling?

Are we going to let vacant properties just sit and become eyesores as drug labs or brothels?

I don't know what the answers are, but I do know we can't just let the Eastside be status quo. Whatever is done is not going to please everyone and some people may have to do more than others.

But in the long run, the Eastside and all of Lodi will benefit from the upgrading that will occur.

A redevelopment agency with good local input is probably the only effective means to accomplish the goal of redevelopment.
