Guzzardi columns hailed for tackling immigration
The April 26 and May 3 columns by Joe Guzzardi regarding the
Latino Family Literacy class in the Lodi Unified School District
and other districts speak volumes about our dismal immigration
policy.
Teaching culture in the classes instead of academics is just one
more reason why every citizen should be concerned.
Apparently the group of non-English-speaking parents who
protested in front of the Lawrence School last November demanding
more bilingual aides and a Spanish-speaking school counselor among
other demands have gotten their way with the Latino Family Literacy
class now offered especially for them.
Are the Latino groups paying for all this service or are the
taxpayers once again being taken?
I live in the Lodi school district. I do not want to pay for a
Latino Family Literacy class, especially since taxpayers are
already paying for the ESL classes for immigrants - all free to
them.
When are our leaders and lawmakers going to say enough is enough
with the whining and demanding coming from those who have
immigrated here?
It is true they are encouraged and counseled by Mexican
political groups, civil rights lawyers and other advocates of
illegal immigration, and this will continue as long as citizens and
our elected officials do not take action.
It would take a book to write about the millions of tax dollars
being used for all the government assistance and free services
available to immigrants. All of this because our lax government
does not curb and enforce our immigration laws. It seems it is OK
to break laws by illegally crossing the border. Even some lawmakers
in Sacramento are now lawbreakers. And I always thought we were a
nation of laws.
I commend Mr. Guzzardi for keeping citizens informed of the real
facts about our scandalous immigration policy. He is knowledgeable
and a true patriot. Shouldn't concerned citizens tackle the issue
head-on as Mr. Guzzardi suggests? Take action before California
becomes another country!
