Tigers finish second at water polo tournament

The Tokay Tigers varsity boys water polo team advanced to the title game of the Merced Tournament on Saturday before losing to Granite Bay 11-2.

Sean Dryden and Brett Hickinbotham each had a goal for the Tigers (9-1).

In the semifinal game, Andrew Drake had three goals to lead the Tigers to a 6-3 win over Beyer. Dryden, Mike Kemether and Shane Mahoney each had a goal for the Tigers.

Goalie Travis Rhea recorded five saves and Zach Barnes added four.

In a preview of their upcoming league matchup, the Tigers knocked off cross-town rival Lodi 5-1 in Saturday's opening match.

Taylor Broughton had two goals for Tokay and Hickinbotham and Andrew Drake each had one. Rhea had four saves.

Darrell Schulz had a goal for Lodi, which finished fourth in the tournament. Mike Alberg had five saves.

Kyle Hensel had two goals, Jen Young and Schulz had one each and Alberg had 14 saves as Lodi defeated Beyer 4-2 in its second game.

In the final game, Hensel and Chris Olson each had a goal and Alberg had eight saves as Lodi fell to Lincoln 6-2.
