Weathers hot on links

Lodi's Pat Weathers recently placed second in a golf tournament at Sierra View in Roseville with a 1-under-par 71.

Weathers also won recent tournaments at Twelve Bridges in Lincoln and Del Paso in Sacramento.


Dick Hurych recently recorded a hole-in-one at Woodbridge Country Club's River Course.

Hurych used a No. 7 wood to ace the 161-yard second hole. Witnesses included Jan Hurych, Fred George and Claire George.


12 and under Galt Tournament championship

Lodi Angels 7, Galt Illusion 0

The Lodi Angels All-Stars 12-and-under softball team won the Galt Tournament last weekend.

The Angels beat Galt Illusion 7-0 in the title game.

Lauren Weltzin, Corinne Alexander and Allie Mendez each had five hits and Amy Vogel added four hits for Lodi (9-1).

Kimberly Maravilla pitched three games, allowing 10 hits and Mendez pitched two games, allowing only one run.

Stephanie Brumm and Alexander split the five games behind the plate.

18 and under

Lodi Valley Heat finish 1-3

Lodi went 1-3 in the Frost Classic this past weekend in Stockton.

Lodi lost to the Stockton Runnin' Rebels 2-1, the Stockton Frost 3-1, and the San Jose Extreme 3-1.

In its only victory, Lodi defeated the San Jose Crush 8-2.

Melanie Nordhaus pitched every game for Lodi.

Ashley Parrish led Lodi with six hits, including two doubles, Crystal Sauseda had five hits, including a triple, Nordhaus had three hits and Jennifer Kupka had two.

Lodi's next tournament is a national qualifier in Hastings Neb. starting Monday.

16 and under

Lodi Heat 3rd

Lodi finished third out of 16 teams in the Frost Classic.

Rachel Gordon and Emily Cecchetti each had six hits in the tournament, Savanna Mobley, Joy Cecchetti and Katie Pepper each had five hits, Courtney Dawley and Jessica Guantone added four hits apiece and Holly Foletta and Libby Cecchetti each had three hits.

Foletta had two wins and a save on the mound and Gordon had a win and a save for Lodi (13-8-2).

Lodi 7, Bear Creek 1

Bear Creek 7, Lodi 3

Garrett Brown hit a three-run homer and added two singles in the opener Saturday.

Lodi won league with an 11-5 mark.

Neil Simpson tripled, Justin Marino and Jack Schmidt each had a double and a single and Josh Borges had two singles.

Joey Akin singled and Brown threw a complete-game four-hitter with six strikeouts.

In the second game, Bear Creek won 7-3.

Brandon Masai had three singles, Brandon Connors singled twice and Kyle Keefer and Matt Recker each singled.

Recker allowed nine hits with nine strikeouts for Lodi (16-5).
