Hospital gets check from hospice foundation
Lodi Memorial Hospital officials recently received $6,000 in grants to help support the hospitals parish nurse program and free medical clinic.
Hospice Preferred Choice Foundation, the foundation for the Concord-based hospice program, awarded the money to the hospital.
Annie Marie Santos, who serves as medical director for Hospice Preferred Choice, said she was glad the hospital programs will benefit from the grants.
Those are two terrific programs in town that are really run only by donations, Santos said.
Joe Harrington, Lodi Memorials chief executive officer, said the grants will further the hospitals work to improve community support services.
In the last six years, the hospital has started eight parish nurse programs in local churches to serve church parishioners.
Lodi Memorial also offers free medical services to the uninsured and working poor at the Salvation Army Medical Clinic at 525 W. Lockeford St. The clinic is open twice a week.
No decison made on districts boundaries
The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, which conducted a public hearing Tuesday on redistricting proposals, will have another hearing at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the board chambers, 700 H St., Sacramento.
Galt is not expected to be affected in the boundary changes, to be made due to the countys population as reflected in the 2000 census. District 5 Supervisor Don Nottoli of Galt needs to lose 50,000 constituents. Most proposed maps have residents of the Valley Hi area of South Sacramento to be transferred from Nottolis district to that of District 2 Supervisor Illa Collin. Nottoli may also lose constituents in the Elk Grove-Florin Road area in Sacramento.
Parachutist Injured
An injured parachutist was transported by ambulance to Lodi Memorial Hospital around noon Thursday.
The injuries were not life threatening.
The woman, a Colorado resident, was jumping from the Parachute Center at Lodi Airport off Highway 99 when she apparently hit the ground too hard upon landing.
Bob Geiszler, of the Woodbridge Rural Fire Protection District, said the woman, whose name was not released, broke her left femur when she landed.
Preliminary budget made available to public
The Liberty Rural Fire Districts preliminary budget for the 2001-02 fiscal year is available for inspection from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the fire station, 24124 N. Bruella Road.
Pretty much, our budget is set, Fire Chief Stan Seifert said.
The $454,000 budget is almost $20,000 larger than last years budget. The final details will depend on how much money is allocated by San Joaquin County, Seifert said.
We always establish our revenue on the low side so we dont have a shortfall, he said.
The budget doesnt show anything new from last year. The district, through its ongoing capital equipment fund, plans to replace a water tender in about two years, Seifert said. The district also has three fire engines, a grass rig and a rescue unit.
The Liberty Fire District covers most of the area east of Highway 99 and north of the Mokelumne River.
Two men arrested as suspects in an auto theft
An Acampo man and a transient were arrested at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday on suspicion of stealing a vehicle two weeks ago in Livermore, Galt police said.
Isais Jerome Becerra, 27, of Acampo and Antonio Jose Ponce, 26, listed by police as a transient, were arrested at Myrtle and Lois avenues in Galt, police said.
County to install four-way stop on Eight Mile Road
The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors approved a plan to make the intersection at Jack Tone and Eight Mile roads a four-way stop.
Supervisors approved the recommendation during their Tuesday meeting.
According to the county Department of Public Works, traffic volume and the number of accidents at the intersection warranted the installation of the signs at the intersection.
Currently, the intersection has stop signs only on Eight Mile Road.
A Stockton woman was killed at the intersection in 1996 after she pulled her vehicle into the path of an oncoming sport utility vehicle.
Supervisors appoint interim public works director
San Joaquin County supervisors have appointed Tom Flinn as interim public works director.
Flinn has served as the countys deputy public works director for 15 years.
He takes over on an interim basis from Manuel Lopez, whom supervisors appointed interim county administrator last week.
Lopez will replace David Baker, who resigned to pursue a doctorate in public administration at Arizona State University.
The appointments are effective Aug. 4.
Flinn will make an annual salary of $103,745.
