Three tied for lead in Tokay Junior Tournament after first round

Mountain View’s Ben Choe, Stockton’s Chad Mosovic and El Dorado Hill’s Bobby Nyberg each shot 69s Thursday at Woodbridge Golf and Country Club to share the first-round lead in the Tokay Junior Golf Tournament.

Five golfers are within three shots of Choe and Mosovic, who are competing in the boys 16-17 age flight.

Lodi’s Steven Meyer is five shots back after posting a 74.

Other locals competing in the flight include Patrick Weathers (77), Josh Harrison (81), Timothy Willett and Emile Santos (82), Brady Ward (84), Jeremy Duncan (90) and Addison Williams (93).

Nyberg leads three players by three strokes in the boys 14-15 flight, including A.J. Hohn, who posted a 72. Other notables include Adam Beckman (75), Brian Ward (76), Chris Karger (78), Louie Kooyman (82), Jake Handel (85) and Ross Vilinskas (86).

Fairfield’s Danielle Pereta leads the girls 15-17 flight by six strokes after posting a 73. Lodi’s Megan Schultz shot a 96.

In the boys 12-13 flight, Jordan Cox of Redwood Shores shot a 72 to lead by seven strokes. Other locals included Michael Karger (88), Tyler Harrison (98) and Tory Weisz (108).

Sacramento’s Casey Gee shot an 81 to lead the girls 12-14 flight by one stroke.

Connor Green of Selma leads the boys 10-11 flight by four shots after shooting a 39. Lodi’s Beau Zastrow posted a 48.

Salinas’ Sydney Burlison hit a 37 to lead the girls 11 and under flight by four strokes. Kercia Brakel of Woodbridge fired a 57.

In the boys nine and under flight, Patrick Grimes of Palo Alto shot a 42 for a one-shot lead. Woodbridge’s Oliver Westbrook recorded a 59, and Alexander Alegre, also of Woodbridge, posted a 63.

The second and final round got underway at 7 a.m. today.
