Don Clift's letter (News-Sentinel, Nov. 2) was a response to a letter my husband, Bud Farley, had published on Oct. 31.

Mr. Clift completely missed the point of my husband's letter. The issue of the National Guard was only mentioned briefly at the end of the letter. This was not the main focus. All one has to do is to read the second paragraph to see what the letter is all about.

Essentially, you can't be a 'goof ball', dummy, or what other label the Democrats try to hang on George W. Bush and still become a military pilot.

My husband, son and several other relatives have been or are pilots in the military. None of them is a dummy.

I would rather have a military pilot as president rather than some one who merely sat behind a desk in Vietnam. There were plenty of dummies sitting behind desks in Vietnam.

I have a master's degree and a private pilot's license. Getting a private pilot's license is much harder than getting a master's degree.

I can't even imagine how hard it would be to become an F-101 pilot.

Arlene Farley, Lodi
