Members of the Alta Mesa Gun Club met on November 3 for their annual Bean Feed and Election of Officers. Elected officers for 2012 are Jim Kunz, President; John Navest, Vice President; Darryl Hoopes, Treasurer; Susan Maggy, Secretary; and Myron Miller, Range Officer. Board of Directors for 2012 are Steve Cecil (Chair), Bill Evans, Darryl Hoopes, Darrell Johnson, Susan Maggy, Becky Moitoso, and Alan Wagner.
The gun club recently submitted a grant application to Friends of NRA to help the newly formed Capital Christian High School Trap Shooting Team get started. Alta Mesa Gun Club will be their home field. In addition to supporting this group the gun club is also the charter organization for Boy Scout Troop 581.
Friends of NRA has been generous in awarding grant monies for various projects in the past. The most current were for a new public address system, voice activated trap release system, heat pumps, and ceiling insulation. In addition, the NRA recently awarded the gun club $1,850 in range grant funds.
Alta Mesa Gun Club is a non-profit family organization that promotes the shooting sports, primarily trap shooting. Shoots are open to the public, and are held every Monday, Thursday and Friday, weather permitting, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. A hunter education program is offered for a nominal fee. Family annual membership fee is $45.00. Members are required to be a member of the National Rifle Association. . The club has a full kitchen, two trap fields, a 20 acre area for working dogs, and one lighted trap field. No hunting is allowed on the premises. Club members have full use of the facilities. The clubhouse is available to club members for private gatherings for a fee, on a reservation basis. Anyone interested in becoming a member should either attend a monthly general meeting, or come out and enjoy an evening ! of shooting at one of the shoots. Club members and range officers are always on hand to offer help to new shooters.
