It will be an active Easter Sunday locally. Many churches will have sunrise services, and some of them are adding services to accommodate the larger crowds expected for Easter.

Lodi Lake will be the setting for a sunrise service involving four churches — Lodi Avenue Baptist, Lodi Community, First Baptist and Vinewood. The service will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the Lodi Lake amphitheater on Turner Road. The community is invited.

Some pastors plan to have a special message Sunday, while others say theirs will be more traditional as Christians celebrate Jesus’ resurrection.

“Our whole Lenten season has been focusing on the gospel as ‘good news,’ ” said James R. “Bo” Crowe, pastor of United Congregational Christian Church in Lodi. “When we experience resurrection, we experience hope, courage and love.

“We are acknowledging the fact that we grow complacent and sometimes indifferent,” Crowe said. “God will not let us become estranged. This is a God of forgiveness, compassion and love, not judgment and condemnation, which is good news.”

Chan Keith, pastor of Westside Assembly in Lodi, said he will focus on what he calls the reality of the resurrection.

“I will talk about how discovering the resurrection in their own lives changes Christianity from a philosophy to a dynamic,” Keith said. “A lot of people haven’t come to grips that (Jesus) is alive.”

In addition to Easter services, many churches will have fellowship gatherings and Easter egg hunts for children.
